Santa Clarita Sports Report: November 14, 2014: The CIF Southern Section West Valley Division playoffs begin tonight with Valencia, Hart and Canyon in action.

Valencia has the only home game. The Vikings, the champions of the Foothill League, take on Rancho Cucamonga.

Rancho Cucamonga is the third-place team from the Baseline League. The game is at Valencia High School.

Hart travels to Edison in Huntington Beach for its first-round playoff game. Hart finished in second place in the Foothill League. Edison is the second-place team from the Sunset League.

Santa Clarita High School Football Playoffs

The Canyon football team has the toughest test in the first round. They travel to Vista Murrieta to take on the No. 2 seed in the West Valley Division playoffs.

Canyon is the third place team from the Foothill League. Vista Murrieta is champion of the Southwestern League and went undefeated in league play.

In high school golf, Golden Valley’s Elisa Pierre shot a 4-over 76 in the CIF/WXCGA regional at the Arrowhead Country Club in San Bernardino.

She finished in a tie for 47th place and did not make the cut for the CIF State championship match.

Brigitte Dunne from Oaks Christian won the CIF/WSCGA regional title with a 3-under 69.

In the major leagues, Clayton Kershaw was selected as the National League Most Valuable Player. Kershaw also won the Cy Young Award, his second in a row and his third in the past four years.

He is the first pitcher in the National League to win the MVP and the Cy Young Award in the same year since Bob Gibson in 1968.

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the visiting Dallas Stars, 2-0. The Kings have lost three of their past four games.

Next up for the Kings are the Ducks on Saturday night.
