Santa Clarita Sports Report – November 14, 2017

CIF State Playoff Volleyball

The SCCS Cardinals, who lost to Glendale Adventist in the CIF SS D9 championship game, earned a 5-seed in the 32 team Division 5 State championship tournament opening Wednesday.

The Cardinals (18-6) host Lone Pine (16-11-2) with first serve at 7:00.

TMU Basketball

The men and women’s basketball teams welcome Bethesda to Bross Court tonight. It’s the second of a five game homestand for both teams.

Women (1-1): 5:30 tipoff

Men (2-1): 7:30 tipoff

Los Angeles Lakers

If the Lakers (6-8) played the Phoenix Suns every game they might go 82-0. So far, they’re 2-0 against them this season.

Jordan Clarkson (25 points) provided the scoring Monday in the 100-93 win.

The most important development through the first 14 games for Los Angeles is the marked improvement in defensive intensity that the young Lakers are showing. They finished 28th last season in points allowed, and have jumped ten spots to 18th this season.

Credit to Luke Walton and the coaching staff for turning things in the right direction on the defensive side of the ball.
