The Masters University Athletics

Women’s Soccer: the Mustangs host Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) in the NAIA Opening Round. A win puts the Mustangs in the NAIA National Championship tournament starting November 27 in Orange Beach, Alabama. Kickoff for the Opening Round game is at 11:00 AM on Saturday.

Men’s Basketball: TMU men’s basketball gets another shot at Antelope Valley Friday night on Bross Court. The Pioneers handed the Mustangs their lone loss of the young season, 87-84, exactly two weeks ago. Tipoff is at 8 PM.

Women’s Basketball: TMU women’s basketball hosts the Jersey Mike’s Fall Classic this weekend, with games against Montana Tech this afternoon (4:00) and Ottawa on Saturday (2:00). The Mustangs have won two in a row after dropping their season opener.

COC Athletics

Football: the Cougars return to the Western State Bowl for the first time since 2009 after just missing out on the CCCAA state playoffs. Canyons (8-2, 4-1) finished second in the National Northern division behind Ventura College (lost 45-30 at Ventura). The Cougars will take on Mt. SAC (8-2, 4-1), the second place team in National Central.

Kickoff from Cougar Stadium in the Western State Bowl is at 6 PM Saturday.

Women’s Soccer: the Cougars open the Southern California Regionals Saturday as the 2-seed. They host LA Pierce, who won the play-in game. Kickoff for Round 1 is scheduled for 2 PM on Saturday.

Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers have back-to-back Rookie(s) of the Year after Cody Bellinger took home the award earlier this week (Corey Seager last year). Bellinger was a unanimous pick as he set a new rookie record for home runs in the National League with 39, to go along with a .267 batting average and a .581 slugging percentage (fifth in the NL).

Los Angeles Lakers

It feels like the Lakers are playing the Phoenix Suns every week, and they will once again on Friday night. Los Angeles is already 2-0 against Phoenix this season, which makes up a third of its win total. LA is coming off a tough loss to Philadelphia at home Wednesday in the first of this four game homestand.

The Lakers will take Saturday off before returning to Staples Center against the Nuggets on Sunday evening.
