Santa Clarita Sports Report: October 17, 2014

Santa Clarita Sports: It’s Week 2 of the Foothill League football season. Valencia takes on Saugus in a match-up of 1-0 teams.

Valencia crushed Golden Valley in the Foothill League opener, 45-10.

Saugus edged West Ranch, 35-32.

The game is at Valencia High. Kickoff is at 7.

The Hart football team is looking to go 2-0. The Indians play West Ranch at College of the Canyons.

Santa Clarita High School Football

Canyon is home for its game against Golden Valley. Both teams are looking for their first Foothill League win of the season.

The Albert Einstein Academy football team plays Hillcrest Christian in an Omega League game today.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team takes on Fairmont Prep in a San Joaquin League game on Saturday.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team plays Faith Baptist in a Heritage League game on Saturday.

In high school golf, Elisa Pierre from Golden Valley won the Foothill League player of the year after shooting an even par 36 at TPC Valencia in the sixth and final league match.

She won the player of the year by seven strokes over Ashley Mayhall from West Ranch.

The West Ranch girls won the Foothill League championship and the Newhall Cup. The Wildcats shot a 209 as team. They won all six Foothill League matches this year.

Los Angeles Kings News

In the NHL, the Kings beat the visiting St. Louis Blues, 1-0, in a shootout.

Jonathan Quick made 43 saves in regulation to force overtime and preserve the shutout. Jeff Carter scored the lone goal in the shootout.

The Kings have won three games in a row.
