TMU Soccer

The Mustangs late second half rally fell short, falling to Westmont 3-2. Down 3-0 in the second half, scored in the 74th and 87th minutes to get to within one but ran out of time against the top team in the conference.

TMU will play its final game of the regular season Saturday in Costa Mesa against Vanguard.

2016 World Series

Trevor Bauer (3.2 innings pitched, six hits, two earned runs) had his outing cut short as the Indians fell to Kyle Schwarber and the Cubs, 5-1, evening the series at 1-1.

Though Bauer struggled a bit, his old teammate at Hart Mike Montgomery pitched two innings in middle relief for the Chicago and struck out four batters.

The series heads to Chicago for three games, the next of which is Friday night.

Los Angeles Lakers

The young Los Angeles Lakers are off to an undefeated season after their season-opening victory over the Houston Rockets at Staples Center.

It was the first time three players aged 21 or younger played for the same team in the same NBA season opener (Russell, Randle, Ingram).

Trailing most of the game, LA made its comeback in the fourth quarter thanks to a clinical second half from Jordan Clarkson. In his new role as the sixth man, Clarkson scored 23 of his 25 points in the final two quarters, and did so in just 25 minutes.

D’Angelo Russell added 20 points and Julius Randle tacked on another 18 to help the Lakers open Luke Walton’s head coaching career with a 120-116 win.

Los Angles clamped down on defense with strong efforts from the likes of Nick Young, Randle and Clarkson, holding Houston to 43 points in the second half after being bludgeoned for 71 in the first half.

Game number two of 82 is Friday in Utah.
