Santa Clarita Sports Report – October 27, 2017

The Blake to Blaike combination has been lethal all season, and it was on full display last night. Junior quarterback Blake Kirshner found senior wideout Blaike Orth for three long second half touchdowns (37, 50, and 60 yards) as the Cardinals cruised to their ninth win of the season.

The #2 team in Division 13 is now one win away from their first undefeated season in 11-man football and first San Jaoquin League championship. They’ll travel to Diamond Bar to take on Southlands Christian in their finale next Thursday. Southlands is in last place in the San Jaoquin League and has just one win on the year.

Santa Clarita High School Volleyball

The co-Foothill League champion Hart Indians and Valencia Vikings had to flip a coin for which team would receive the opening round Division 2 playoff bye, and Valencia won, meaning Hart will open the D2 playoffs at home on Tuesday, October 31st.

Hawthorne MSA (8-5) vs Trinity Classical Academy (15-7-1)

TMU Athletics

Women’s Volleyball: The Mustangs picked up a 3-1 win in Phoenix against Arizona Christian, snapping a three game losing streak. There’s still time for the Mustangs to make a run to an NAIA Tournament berth, with three GSAC games remaining and the GSAC Tournament. Tonight, they face San Diego Christian in the second of a back-to-back. First serve is at 7:300.

Soccer: Both the men’s and women’s team face tough Westmont teams at home on Saturday. The 14th ranked Mustangs women’s team is tied for second place in the GSAC with 9th ranked Westmont. The top-15 battle is scheduled for an 11:00 AM kickoff.

Basketball: The Mustangs men’s basketball team dominated Bethesda from start to finish in a 90-60 win on Bross Court. Lawrence Russell scored 15 points and grabbed 11 boards in the win. Saturday, the Mustangs have an exhibition at Azusa Pacific.

COC Football

The Cougars host Cerritos Saturday night at Cougar Stadium in the third conference game of the season. Canyons is 5-2 overall and 1-1 after last week’s 40-16 win over Moorpark, while the Cerritos Falcons stumble into the game after a 24-17 loss to Bakersfield in their homecoming game.

Kickoff is at 6:00.
