Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update August 14, 2014

Valencia High graduate Jonathan Chang won his first round match at the US Amateur golf championship in Johns Creek, NY.

Chang defeated Taylor Pendrith, 4 and 2, in the first round of match play on the Atlanta Athletic Club Highlands Course.

Chang took the lead in the match by making a birdie on the par-5 12th hole. He won holes 14, 15 and 16 to win the match.

Chang, a sophomore at Rutgers University, plays Denny McCarthy in the second round of match play today. McCarthy is the 36th ranked amateur in the world.

Round 2 and 3 of match play in the US Amateur Championships are scheduled for today.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the Atlanta Braves, 3-2. The Braves scored the winning run in the fifth inning off Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Ryu left the game the in the sixth inning with a glute muscle strain.

The Dodgers are 5-1 against the Braves this year.

They wrap up their series against the Braves this morning. Roberto Hernandez starts for the Dodgers against Aaron Harang for the Braves.
