Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update August 25, 2014

The Master’s College women’s soccer team had a rough start to its 2014 season.

The Lady Mustangs lost to Concordia, 3-2, in their season opener. Concordia is the No. 1 ranked team in the NAIA and went 22-1-1 last season.

The score was tied, 1-1, at halftime.

Tara Struiksma scored in the 58th minute to give The Master’s College a 2-1 lead. But Concordia scored two goals in the second half to win the game.

The Master’s College is ranked No. 18 in the NAIA. Concordia improved to 2-0.

The Master’s College men’s soccer team lost to Westminster, 2-0, in the Westminster Kickoff Classic in Utah.

The Mustangs lost two games in the Kickoff Classic and are 0-2 to start the 2014 season.

In auto racing, Brian Richardson won both of the NASCAR Citgo Late Models Twin 35 races at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield.

Johnny White won the Spec Mods race. Randy Smith won the Mini Stocks race, Jeremy Clark won the Senior Mini Dwarf race and Kabe McClenny won the Junior Mini Dwarf race.

In the Verizon IndyCar Series, Jack Hawksworth, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, was 15th in the Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Scott Dixon won the race, his second in the past three races.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the visting New York Mets, 11-3. The Mets scored five runs in the second inning to take a 7-1 lead.

The Dodgers took two of three games against the Mets over the weekend and have won three of their past four games.

They are off to Arizona to start a series against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
