Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 1, 2014

The Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team shut out the Colorado Storm, 1-0, and snapped a three-game losing streak.

Krystyna Sikora broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 90th minute.

The Blue Heat were shut out in their previous two games.

They improved to 4-6 in the USL W-League Western Conference.

Their next game is against the Colorado Rush on Thursday night at The Master’s College.

In the World Cup, France and Germany won their Round of 16 matches to advance to the quarterfinals.

France shut out Nigeria, 2-0.

Germany needed overtime to beat Algeria, 2-1.

The United States plays its knockout round game today against Belgium. Kickoff is set for 1 this afternoon.

Los Angeles Sports News

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers shutout the Cleveland Indians, 1-0. Dodgers’ pitcher Dan Haren had his best start of the year.

He pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed only one hit, an overturned infield single, while 29-year-old callup Clint Robinson drove in the only run with his first Major League hit as the Dodgers edged the Indians, 1-0, to gain sole possession of first place in the National League West for the first time since April 24.

Dodgers continue the series with the Indians with first pitch tonight at 7:10.
