Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 16, 2014

The Hart PONY Mustang 9U Red Team won the Super Regions Tournament at the Hart Complex.

The Mustang Red Team went 4-0 in the tournament. They beat the North Valley All Stars, 10-4, in the championship game. The Mustang Red Team outscored its opponents, 40-12, in the four games.

The Hart team advances to the PONY Zone Tournament as the No. 1 seed in Southern California. Their first game is Friday against Washington in Walnut.

In the major leagues, the American League won the All Star Games, 5-3, over the National League.

Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels won the MVP. He went 2-for-3 with a triple and drove in two runs.

Clayton Kershaw pitched a perfect second inning for the National League. He had one strikeout.

Zack Greinke struck out two and pitched a perfect fourth inning.

Dee Gordon entered the game as a pinch runner and scored a run. He was 0-for-1.

Yasiel Puig started in right field for the National League All Stars. He went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts in his All Star debut.

The Dodgers are back on the field are back on the field on Friday night against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Dan Haren is set to start for the Dodgers against Lance Lynn for the Cardinals.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
