Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 17, 2014

The Hart, Canyon and Valencia girls basketball teams are in the San Diego Classic tournament, one of the largest summer tourneys in the state.

Hart plays Woodbridge in the first game of pool play today. They are in the same pool as Canyon. The Canyon girls play Sierra Vista.

Valencia plays Whittier Christian in its first game of pool play.

In the NBA, the Lakers signed free agent big man Ed Davis to a two-year deal, according to media reports.

Davis played with the Memphis Grizzlies last season and averaged 5.7 points and 4.1 rebounds in 15 minutes per game.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers start the second half of the season in first place in the National League West standings.

They are 54-43 and a game ahead of the San Francisco Giants.

The Dodgers went into the All Star break winning three of four games against the Padres.

They start a nine-game road trip on Friday. The Dodgers will play Cardinals, Pirates and Giants before returning home to play the Atlanta Braves on July 29.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
