Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 21, 2014

Hart and Saugus will meet in the semifinals of the Valley Invitational Baseball playoffs on Tuesday.

Saugus knocked out Canyon in the quarterfinals, 5-3.

Caden Salkeld hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning that proved to be the difference in the game.

Joey Mendez doubled in a run in the second inning to give Saugus a 2-0 lead. He went 2-for-2 with two doubles in the game.

Canyon took a short-lived, 3-2, lead in the top of the fourth inning.

The Hart baseball team beat Granada Hills, 2-1, behind a two-hitter from Miles Tsujimoto.

He struck out seven and walked three in the complete game.

In auto racing, Jack Hawksworth, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport in the Verizon IndyCar Series, posted a pair of top-15 finishes in the Honda Indy Toronto Doubleheader.

The driver for the team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, was 13th in the first race and sixth in the second race.

Sebastien Bourdais won the first race. Mike Conway won the second.

The next race in the Verion IndyCar Series is the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on Aug. 3.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3, to salvage the final game of the series.

Adrian Gonzalez drove in the game-winner in the top of the ninth.

The Dodgers are off to Pittsburgh to start a series against the Pirates. Hyun-Jin Ryu starts for the Dodgers against Edinson Volquez for the Pirates.
