Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 22, 2014

Austin O’Neil won the second race in the College of the Canyons Cross Country Series. He completed the 3-mile course in 15 minutes, 10.1 seconds.

Mitchell Pratt was second, followed by Ismael Jamano in third.

Rosa Del Toro won the women’s race in 17 minutes, 41.9 seconds. Ten-year-old Lexi Fernandez was second and Roni Yamane was third.

The next race in the COC Cross Country Series is Thursday. It starts at 7.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-2, and won their second game in a row.

Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-3 with two doubles and drove in a run.

Justin Turner had two hits and knocked in two runs.

Hyun-Jin Ryu went seven innings and gave up two runs on five hits. He won his 11th game of the season. The Dodgers are the first team in the major leagues to have three 11-game winners. Clayton Kershaw is 11-2 and Zack Greinke is 11-6.

The Dodgers and Pirates continue their series today in Pittsburgh. Josh Beckett starts for the Dodgers against Vance Worley for the Pirates.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
