Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 24, 2014

Saugus will play for the Valley Invitational Baseball League championship for the second year in a row.

The Saugus baseball team faces El Camino Real in the championship game tonight at Birmingham High.

Saugus lost to Hart in the championship game last year.

This year, Saugus knocked off Hart in the semifinals, 8-3. Rudy Aguilar had three hits, a home run and drove in four runs against Hart.

El Camino Real beat Loyola, 7-4, in the other semifinal game. The last time El Camino Real won the Valley Invitational Baseball League championship in 2005.

In cross country, the third race in the College of the Canyons Cross Country Series is tonight.

Austin O’Neil won the second race in the COC Cross Country Series. Rosa Del Toro won the women’s race.

Tonight’s race starts at 7.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-1. The Dodgers dropped two of three games to the Buckos.

The Pirates scored four runs in the first inning. Dan Haren took the loss, giving up five runs on four hits in five innings.

The Dodgers are off to San Francisco to start a weekend series with the Giants on Friday night.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
