Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update July 25, 2014

The Saugus baseball team shut out El Camino Real, 3-0, to win the Valley Invitational Baseball League championship at Birmingham High.

Caden Maher started for Saugus and pitched four shutout innings. He gave up only three hits, walked two and struck out four.

Saugus took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Tyler Grissom. The Centurions scored two more runs in the seventh inning.

Saugus went 15-5 in the Valley Invitational Baseball League summer season.

In auto racing, the NASCAR Late Models will be running twin 35s at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield on Saturday night.

Brian Richardson leads the Late Model standings at the track by 34 points over Lance Wilson. The Late Model drivers will be racing two 35-lap races.

The Spec Mods, Junior Dwarfs, Mini Dwarfs and the 911 Series is set to race as well.

The green flag drops at 7.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers take on the San Francisco Giants this weekend in a battle for first place in the National League West.
