Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 18, 2014

The Master’s College added a couple runners to its track and field and cross country teams.

Andrew Sanchez will join the track team. He was on the College of the Canyons team and ran for the Village Christian track team in high school.

He holds the school record in the 400 at Village Christian and was on the COC team in 2013.

Skyler Mikesell from Indiana will run on the cross country and track teams at The Master’s College.

He will be a freshman and competes in the 800, 1,500 and, 5,000 meters in track.

The men’s cross country team opens in the UC Irvine in September.

In high school softball, seven players from the Foothill League were selected to play in today’s San Fernando Valley All-Star Classic at Birmingham High.

West Ranch’s Lauren Lindvall, Mollie Sorenson and Julia Lombardi, Valencia’s Wendy Cardinali and Emma Stanley and Canyon’s Tiffany Dyson and Kaelie Doyle will play on the East All Star team in the game.

The All-Star Classic starts with a home run derby at 2:30 followed by the all star game at 3:30.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies, 4-2. Hanley Ramirez hit a two-run home run and Matt Kemp hit a solo shot for the Dodgers.

Zack Greinke won his ninth game of the season. The Dodgers have won two in a row and four of their past fivegames.

The Dodgers conclude their series with the Rockies tonight. Clayton Kershaw starts for the Dodgers against Jorge De La Rosa for the Rockies.

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood.
