Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update – May 29, 2014

In high school baseball, Mike Killinger is the new head coach at Valencia. He was the interim coach of the team after Jared Snyder was took a leave of absence two games into the Foothill League season.

Snyder is being investigated by the school district for ethical and financial misconduct.

The Valencia baseball team reached the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs under Killinger.

In high school tennis, the West Ranch doubles team of Chris Gaw and Noah Morrow begin play in the CIF Southern Section individual sectionals today.

The tournament is at Caprinteria High School.

Los Angeles Sports Report

The Kings couldn’t put the Blackhawks on ice in Game 5 of the NHL Western Conference finals.

The Kings lost to the Blackhawks, 5-4, in double overtime.

The Blackhawks are still alive in the playoffs. But the Kings are up, 3-2.

Game 6 is at Staples Center on Friday night.

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 3-2, and had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Yasiel Puig hit his 12th home run of the season, but it wasn’t enough to put the Dodgers over the top.

The Dodgers start a weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at Dodger Stadium.

 Dan Haren starts for the Dodgers against Gerrit Cole for the Pirates.
