Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update September 16, 2014

The Valencia and Hart football teams remained in the top 10 in the CIF Southern Section West Valley Division poll. But there is a new No. 1 team in the West Valley Division.

Valencia is ranked No. 3 for the second week in a row despite losing to Chaminade on Friday night.

Hart moved down a spot to No. 9 despite winning its first game of the season. The Indians blew out Paraclete, 49-17.

The big shakeup was at the top of the West Valley Division. Tesoro moved from No. 4 to No. 1 after beating Upland, 28-14. Vista Murrieta dropped from No. 1 all the way to No. 4 after losing to Del Oro from the San Joaquin Section.

In girls volleyball, Valencia is ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1A poll.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls are ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Division 5AA poll. The Trinity Classical Academy girls are ranked No. 6 in Division 5AA.

In cross country, the Saugus boys and girls teams are ranked No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll.

The West Ranch boys are No. 9 in Division 2. The West Ranch girls are ranked No. 8 in Division 2.

In college soccer, The Master’s College men beat Menlo College, 3-2, scoring all three goals in the first half.

Jordan Edwards had a goal and an assist.

The Mustangs improved to 3-4.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies, 11-3, scoring eight runs in the sixth inning. The Dodgers are now four games ahead of the Giants in the National League West standings. The Giants lost to the Diamondbacks, 6-2.

Game 2 of the series against the Rockies is tonight in Colorado. Dan Haren starts for the Dodgers against Tyler Matzek for the Rockies.
