Santa Clarita Sports: Tie For First Place In Foothill League Softball

In high school softball, Saugus shut out West Ranch, 1-0, and moved into a tie for first place in the Foothill League standings.

The Centurions snapped the Wildcats’ 26-game winning streak in the Foothill League.

Saugus starter Mariah Lopez pitched a five-hitter. She struck out six and walked none. Alyssa Rodriguez drove in the only run of the game with an RBI single in the first inning.

Both teams are tied for first place in the Foothill League with 7-1 records.

The Valencia softball team beat Canyon, 13-9. The Vikings are 5-3 and in third place in the Foothill League. Canyon dropped to 2-6.

The Hart softball team beat Golden Valley, 18-17 in extra innings and won its first Foothill League game of the season.

The Indians scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning.

In high school golf, the Hart boys won the Newhall Cup at the TPC at Valencia by 17 strokes over West Ranch. The Indians were also crowned Foothill League champs, ending West Ranch’s six-year run as league champion.

Golden Valley’s Jonathan Kang won the Newhall Cup individual championship. He is the first player from Golden Valley to win the Newhall Cup.

In auto racing, the NASCAR Pro Late Models are in action Saturday night at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield.

The Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Mini Dwarfs and the 911 Series are also scheduled to race.

The green flag drops at 7.

Los Angeles Sports Report

Home ice has not been an advantage for either the Kings or the Ducks in the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Ducks beat the Kings, 3-2, at Staples Center in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals.

The Kings won the first two games in Anaheim. The Ducks won their first game of the series on the Kings home ice.

The Kings lead the series 2-1. Game 4 is at Staples Center on Saturday.

In the major leagues, the Dodgers lost to the visiting San Francisco Giants, 3-1 in extra inning. The Giants scored two runs in the 10th inning to win the game.

The Dodgers and Giants continue their series tonight at the Ravine. Paul Maholm starts for the Dodgers against Madison Bumgarner for the Giants.
