Santa Clarita Sports: Trinity Classical Academy Boys Basketball Win In Playoffs

The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team rolled over New Covenant Academy, 57-16, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 6 playoffs.

Trinity led 38-8 at halftime and held New Covenant to two points in the fourth quarter.

Trinity plays Lee Vining in the second round of the playoffs on Friday night.

The Trinity Classical Academy girls basketball team plays Arrowhead Christian tonight in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 5A playoffs.

The Albert Einstein Academy girls play Silver Valley in the first round of the Division 5AA playoffs.

In baseball, the New York Mets signed a couple of former College of the Canyons pitchers to minor league contracts. 

The Mets will have Buddy Carlyle and Dana Eveland in their minor league spring training camps. Neither pitcher has been invited to the major league spring training team.

In the NBA, the Lakers made a move before the trade deadline dealing guard Steve Blake to the Golden State Warriors.

The Warriors send Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks to the Lakers in exchange for Blake. Blake has been with the Lakers for nearly four seasons, signing with the team in 2010. He will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

On the court, the Lakers lost to the visiting Houston Rockets, 134-108. The Lakers have lost four games in a row. They play the Boston Celtics at Staples Center on Friday.

Sochi Winter Olympics – Medal Count

In the Winter Olympics, Ted Ligety won the gold medal in the giant slalom and is the first American man to win two Olympic gold medals in Alpine skiing.

The United States leads the medal count at the Sochi Olympics with 23. Team USA has won seven gold medals.

Russia and the Netherlands are tied for second place in the medal count with 22. Both countries have won six gold medals.
