Santa Clarita Sports: Valencia Baseball Coach Under Investigation

The Hart baseball team beat Valencia, 3-1, and improved to 2-0 in the Foothill League. Valencia lost the game and its coach on a rocky Friday afternoon.

Valencia coach Jared Snyder was given a leave of absence by the school district. He is under investigation by the district. No other details were given by school district officials.

On the field, Hart kept its undefeated record intact and improved to 7-0-1 overall.

Valencia dropped to 0-2 in the Foothill League and 3-4 overall.

In other action in the Foothill League, Saugus shut out Canyon, 2-0, and improved to 2-0 in league.

Saugus starter Anthony Donatella gave up six hits in 5 1/3 shutout innings, striking out three.

Canyon dropped to 0-2 in league and 4-5 overall.

The West Ranch baseball team beat Golden Valley, 7-2, to keep pace with Hart and Saugus in the Foothill League standings at 2-0.

West Ranch took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Golden Valley dropped to 0-2 in league and 3-6 overall.

In tennis, the Valencia boys won the Spring Smash tournament. The Vikings scored 20 points in the tournament. Simi Valley was second and West Ranch was third.

In NASCAR, Kyle Busch won the Sprint Cup Series race at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana a frantic two-lap dash at the end.

Carl Edwards leads the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings after five races. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is second, one point behind Edwards.

In the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley was third in the NAPA Auto Parts 150 at Irwindale Speedway.

Patrick Staropoli won the race, the first of his K&N Pro Series West career.

Santa Clarita’s Rich DeLong III was 21st.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the visiting Orlando Magic, 103-94, and snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Lakers will try to make it two wins in a row against the New York Knicks on Tuesday.

In the NHL, the Kings take on the Philadelphia Flyers tonight. The Kings have won two games in a row and are coming off a 4-0 shutout over the Florida Panthers on Saturday.
