The Santa Clarita United Blue, an under-14 girls soccer team, won the U14 Girls Gold Championship of the Mustang Stampede in Danville, Calif., beating the Aax United Football Club, 1-0, in the title game.
Taylor Ayers scored the winning goal in overtime. Alex Best recorded the shutout in goal. She recorded five straight shutouts in the tournament.
The Santa Clarita United Blue beat the Del Mar Sharks, 1-0, in the semifinals. Hannah Hoskins scored the lone goal in the game in the second half.
In the quarterfinals, Santa Clarita United beat the Arsenal Football Club, 2-0. Alexis Shaw gave her team a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Kristen Sowble scored later in the half to give her team a two-goal lead.

In college football, the UCLA Bruins lost a defensive tackle to a broken foot in practice. Datone Jones, a 6-foot-4, 269-pound defensive lineman, will be out indefinitely after X-rays showed he broke a bone in his foot.
Jones was a sophomore All-American last year when he recorded four sacks and 11 tackles for losses.
More bad news for the Bruins, offensive tackle Jeff Baca was ruled academically ineligible by the NCAA. The team is appealing the ruling.
The 6-foot-4, 305-pound junior played every game at left guard for UCLA last season. It is possible Baca could return to the team before the season opener against Kansas State on Sept. 4 if his appeal is accepted.
In auto racing, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana will have only one NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in 2011. For the past seven years, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana has hosted two Cup races a year. The track hosted a Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship race for the first time last year. The fourth race in this year’s Chase will be at Auto Club Speedway in October.
The only visit the Sprint Cup Series will make to Auto Club Speedway in 2011 will be in March.

The Dodgers exploded offensively against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 15-9 win. Andre Ethier went 4-for-4 and reached base six times. He scored four runs and drove in three.
Jay Gibbons hit his first home run as a Dodger, a two-run shot in the sixth inning. Casey Blake added a two-run home run in the ninth inning and drove in four runs.
Ryan Theriot was 3-for-5 and scored three runs and James Loney went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs.
Rafael Furcal landed on the 15-day disabled list though. The Dodgers All-Star shortstop has a stiff lower back. He was placed on the DL retroactive to Aug. 3 and can come off it Aug. 18 for the series against the Colorado Rockies.
The Dodgers continue their series with the Phillies tonight. It will be Chad Billingsley for the Dodgers against Roy Oswalt for the Phillies. Pregame starts at 3:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
