Santa Clarita’s Allyson Felix won the silver medal in the 400 at the world track and field championship meet in South Korea.
She finished a fraction of a second behind Amantle Montsho of Botswana, who won in 49.56 seconds. Felix crossed the finish line in 49.59 seconds.
Felix, a three-time world champion in the 200, is looking to become the first woman to win world championships in both the 400 and 200.
Canyon High graduate Lauren Fleshman qualified for the finals in the 5,000. She was fourth in her heat and 11th overall in 15 minutes, 34.04 seconds.
The 5,000 final race is Friday.

Hart’s Kendell Dusenberry shot the low round and was the medalist at Rustic Canyon in the season-opening girls golf match against La Reina. But Hart lost its first season opener since 2006.
Dusenberry shot an even-par 36 with three birdies, but Hart lost by 44 strokes, 219-263.
Hart’s Jamie Corr carded a 7-over par 43.
In baseball, the Angels lost to the Mariners, 5-3, and fell even farther out of first place in the American League West standings.
Mike Carp hit a two-run home run for the Mariners in the eighth inning to break a 3-3 tie.
The Angels are 3 ½ games behind the first-place Texas Rangers, who had the night off.
