The Saugus baseball team beat Santa Margarita, 7-5, in the OC Nissan Tournament. Saugus scored four runs in the second inning.
Brad Buchignani was 2-for-3 with double and three RBIs for Saugus.
Brandon Clark also had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run.
Saugus is 2-1 in the tournament and plays Palos Verdes later on today.
The Hart baseball team lost to Corona, 9-2, in the OC Nissan Tournament. Daniel Dietz was 2-for-4 for Hart. Garrett Gooding pitched into the seventh inning and had 11 strikeouts, but Corona scored five runs in the seventh.
Hart is 0-3 in the tournament and will play Yorba Linda today.
The Canyon baseball team suffered its first loss in the Beach Pit Classic in Costa Mesa. Canyon lost to Estancia, 5-2, after winning its first two games in the tournament.
The West Ranch softball team beat Burroughs, 3-2, scoring the winning run on an error in the seventh inning. Amy Droege walked, stole second and third and scored when the throw down to third sailed into leftfield in the Birmingham tournament.
Lauren Lombardi had two hits and drove in a run for West Ranch.
The College of the Canyons softball team won a pair of games against LA Valley College and extended their Western State Conference winning streak to 11 games. COC won the first game, 4-1, and the second game, 6-1.
Pitcher Ashley Imperial won both games, giving up one earned run and striking out eight in her 14 innings.
Whitney Bruce collected two hits, a double and a triple, and drove in two runs in the doubleheader. Alexis Caso, Melissa Herndon and Karissa Hartwig each had three hits in the two games.
The Dodgers send Clayton Kershaw to the mound against the Pittsburgh Pirates for their second game of the season. The Pirates will counter with Ross Ohlendorf. He compiled an 11-10 record last year, one of few Pirate pitchers to post winning records in recent years.
Let’s see if the Dodgers can score more than five runs against Ohlendorf, or better yet, let’s see if Kershaw can hold the Pirates to less than 11 runs.

The Kings beat the Anaheim Ducks, 5-4 in a shootout, and knocked their crosstown rivals out of playoff contention. The Kings scored two goals in the third period to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Dustin Brown had a goal and an assist. Michal Handzus scored the game-tying goal with a little over a minute left in regulation.
