Saugus Boys And Girls Cross Country Teams Sweep First Foothill League Meet

sportslocalThe Saugus boys and girls cross country teams won the first Foothill League meet at Central Park on Wednesday, but Golden Valley and West Ranch had reason to celebrate too.

Golden Valley’s Seth Totten won the boys race. West Ranch’s Jennifer Owen won the girls race. She was followed by teammate Bailey Miller in second.

The first league cross country meet was finally completed after being suspended a week because of poor air quality.

The Saugus boys and girls teams will be traveling to New York to compete in Saturday’s 45th annual McQuaid Invitational in Rochester. Since 2005, the winner of the McQuaid Invitational has gone on to win the Nike Cross Country Nationals in Portland, Ore.

In high school golf, the Hart girls won their second Foothill League match by another huge margin. Nikki Prichard led Hart to a 31-stroke win and shot 2-under par 31 at Vista Valencia Golf Course. All five Hart golfers shot in the 30s for a team score of 177.

Saugus, led by Nicole DeFrancisco’s 2-over par 35, was second at 208.

In college soccer, The Master’s College’s Joel Peluffo scored three goals, a hat trick, in his team’s 4-2 win over Fresno Pacific. Peluffo scored twice in the first half and added his third goal in the 63rd minute.

Marlon Lindo scored the other goal for The Master’s College, a perfect 2-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
