Valencia, the No. 2 team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll, is home against a stingy Palmdale team, ranked fifth in the Northern Division poll.

Valencia is coming off a 47-6 dismantling of Birmingham last Friday night.

Palmdale narrowly defeated Granada Hills Kennedy, 14-10.

The Canyon High football, undefeated at 2-0, is on the road against Camarillo. Canyon shut out Highland, 35-0, last week. Camarillo is 2-0 and beat Righetti, 21-17 in its last game.

The first 8-man football crosstown rivalry game is Saturday at West Ranch High School. Santa Clarita Christian, the reigning CIF Division I 8-man champions, play Trinity Classical Academy, a team playing its third varsity game.

Santa Clarita Christian mercy ruled Maricopa last week. Trinity shut out Ojai Valley. Let’s hope Trinity makes it interesting and plays all four quarters.

In high school cross country, the Saugus girls won the Foothill League meet at Castaic Lake, but Golden Valley’s Chelsea Totten pulled the surprise of the race. She won the girls race in 18 minutes, 26 seconds.

UCLA is staring a 1-3 record right in the bull’s eye.

The 20th ranked USC Trojans start Pac-10 play against the Washington State Cougars. For a team that is undefeated and won its first three games of the season, USC is going the wrong way in the polls. Wonder how far they’ll drop after pounding Washington State.

The Dodgers found some offensive punch in Andre Ethier and beat the San Diego Padres, 3-1. Ethier drove in two runs and Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda gave up a run and five hits in eight innings.

The Dodgers are on the road to start a weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. It will be John Ely on the mound for the Dodgers against Barry Enright for the Diamondbacks.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
