Saugus Football Team Looks To Get Back On Track

khts_sportsThe Saugus football team will look to rebound against Knight High School from Lancaster at College of the Canyons tonight.

Saugus won its first two games of the season before losing to Buena last Friday night.

Knight is 0-2 and coming off a tough 42-14 loss to Alemany.

Valencia, the No. 2 team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll, is home against a stingy Palmdale team, ranked fifth in the Northern Division poll.

Valencia is coming off a 47-6 dismantling of Birmingham last Friday night.

Palmdale narrowly defeated Granada Hills Kennedy, 14-10.

The Canyon High football, undefeated at 2-0, is on the road against Camarillo. Canyon shut out Highland, 35-0, last week. Camarillo is 2-0 and beat Righetti, 21-17 in its last game.

The Golden Valley football team has been off for two weeks. The Grizzlies host Channel Islands at Canyon High School tonight. Golden Valley lost to Royal, 20-19, two weeks ago. Channel Islands is 1-2 and beat Santa Clara last week.

Hart is on the road against Arroyo. Hart is 2-1 and beat Burroughs, 27-10, last week. Arroyo is 3-0 and beat Montebello, 12-8, last week.

West Ranch is on the road as well. The Wildcats play Silverado at Victor Valley High School.

The first 8-man football crosstown rivalry game is Saturday at West Ranch High School. Santa Clarita Christian, the reigning CIF Division I 8-man champions, play Trinity Classical Academy, a team playing its third varsity game.

Santa Clarita Christian mercy ruled Maricopa last week. Trinity shut out Ojai Valley. Let’s hope Trinity makes it interesting and plays all four quarters.

In high school cross country, the Saugus girls won the Foothill League meet at Castaic Lake, but Golden Valley’s Chelsea Totten pulled the surprise of the race. She won the girls race in 18 minutes, 26 seconds.

Hart won the boys part of the meet led by Sam Peckham.

In college football, the UCLA football team is coming off a huge win over the 23rd ranked Houston Cougars. Now they get the seventh-ranked Texas Longhorns in Austin.

UCLA is staring a 1-3 record right in the bull’s eye.

The 20th ranked USC Trojans start Pac-10 play against the Washington State Cougars. For a team that is undefeated and won its first three games of the season, USC is going the wrong way in the polls. Wonder how far they’ll drop after pounding Washington State.

The Dodgers found some offensive punch in Andre Ethier and beat the San Diego Padres, 3-1. Ethier drove in two runs and Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda gave up a run and five hits in eight innings.

The Dodgers are on the road to start a weekend series with the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight. It will be John Ely on the mound for the Dodgers against Barry Enright for the Diamondbacks.
