Saugus freshman Abbey Weitzeil had no problem double-dipping at the CIF Southern Section Division I swim finals at Riverside City College.
She won Division I championships in the 50 and 100 freestyle and became the first swimmer from Saugus to win a Southern Section championship since 1997.
She won the 50 freestyle in 23.07 seconds to set the Foothill League and school record. She won the 100 freestyle in 49.63 seconds and came within a half-second of breaking the meet record of 49.26 seconds.
In the CIF boys volleyball playoffs, Valencia and West Ranch are in the Division II semifinals.
Valencia beat Capistrano Valley in four games to reach the semifinals for the first time since 2008, when the Vikings won the Southern Section Division II championship.
Eric Ensing recorded a season-high 35 kills to lead Valencia.
West Ranch knocked off Laguna Beach in four games and is the only unseeded team in the semifinals. Anthony Hanna set a school record with 52 assists for West Ranch. Tanner Skabelund had a team-high 15 kills.
Fourth-seeded Valencia plays top-seeded Oak Park on Tuesday. West Ranch travels to play No. 2 seed Corona del Mar.
The College of the Canyons softball team was in survival mode in the California Community College Athletic Association Super Regionals. After losing to Southwestern in the first round of the double-elimination tournament, COC won two games in a row to advance to the championship series against Riverside City College.
But COC lost to Riverside, 5-3, and was eliminated from the Super Regional tournament. Adriana Correrra hit 24 home runs to set a school record and the team finished with 42-5-1 record, the best in school history.
The Clippers found a way to win on the road and advanced to the next round of the NBA playoffs. The Clippers beat the Grizzlies, 82-72, in Game 7 of the first round of the playoffs. They will play the San Antonio Spurs in the second round.
The Kings are still hot on the NHL playoff ice. The Kings beat the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-2, in Game 1 of the NHL Western Conference final.
Dwight King scored two goals and Dustin Brown had a goal and an assist as the Kings won their sixth road playoff game in a row.
Game 2 is Tuesday night in Phoenix.
