Saugus Girls Soccer Team Shuts Out Lancaster In Season Opener

The Saugus girls soccer team shut out Lancaster, 4-0, to win its season opener.

Monica Allen scored two second-half goals and paced the Centurions. Avery Schulhofer assisted on both goals for Saugus in the first half.

Brenna Savoie and Kassandra Jones gave Saugus a 2-0 lead with goals in the first half.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls won their season opener, 3-2, over Crossroads. Megan Gallagher, Christina Keoshian and Maddie Perrault each scored for Santa Clarita Christian.

On the boys side, Hart beat Quartz Hill, 5-1. Osmar Martinez scored two goals and Hart scored four goals in the second half.

West Ranch doubled up on Newbury Park, 4-2. Justice Rodriguez scored two goals and had two assists for the Wildcats.

In high school basketball, the West Ranch boys beat Crespi, 72-68. Ako Kaluna scored 23 points, 14 in the fourth quarter, to lead West Ranch in its season opener.

The Canyon boys beat Bell-Jeff, 64-43, in the Burbank varsity tournament. Dean Hendrix-Davis scored 19 points and had eight rebounds for Canyon.

The Trinity boys basketball team beat Valley Christian, 64-63. Ian Caddow scored 16 points, 13 in the fourth quarter, for Trinity.

The West Ranch girls basketball team beat Blair, 68-40, in the Falcon Classic at Crescenta Valley High School. Whitney Branham scored 22 points and had 13 rebounds for West Ranch.

The Saugus girls lost to Knight, 60-43, in the Valencia High Five Classic. Alexa Ferrante scored 12 points for Saugus.

In high school tennis, the Valencia doubles team of Ashley Keith and Tina Inchalik lost in the round of 32 in the CIF Southern Section Individual tournament at the Whittier Narrows Tennis Center.

Keith and Inchalik lost, 6-4, 6-3, to Diamond Bar’s Evelynn Wang and Melody Chen.

In college volleyball, The Master’s College women lost their first match in pool play at the NAIA National Championship tournament.

The Lady Mustangs were swept in three games by Cal State San Marcos. Aubrey Beckendam led The Master’s College with nine kills and had 12 assists.

The Lady Mustangs play Viterbo University from La Crosse, Wis., in pool play today.

In soccer, the Futbol Club Santa Clarita Storm’s Jayor Martinez signed a deal to play for the Anaheim Bolts of the Professional Arena Soccer League.

He is one of three players on the Storm who signed professional soccer contracts. Martinez plans on playing with the Storm in the National Premier Soccer League as well.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the visiting Indiana Pacers, 79-77, despite a 40-point game from Kobe Bryant. He also had 10 rebounds, but committed 10 turnovers.
