Saugus Girls Soccer Team Wins CIF Championship

Centurions down Harvard-Westlake 2-1.

Erin Ortega and Jamie Molacek scored for Saugus in a 2-1 win over Havard-Westlake in the CIF Southern Section Division II championship game Friday night at Warren High School in Downey.

It was the first CIF soccer championship for the Saugus girls in school history.

Saugus moves on to the CIF Regional tournament which begins next week.

The Vasquez High School girls soccer team lost 3-1 to Alverno High in the Division VII championship game. Vasquez had a 40-game unbeaten streak and a 26-game winning streak snapped. The Vasquez girls came into the championship game with a 24-0 record.

In club hockey, the Valencia Flyers won the first game of a three-game playoff series against the Phoenix Polar Bears on Friday night. John Asher, Brian Voogt,
Andy Monesi and Daniel Chang scored in a 4-2 win for Valencia. The two teams play again tonight in Game 2.
