Saugus Girls Win Mt. SAC Invitational Cross Counry Meet

sportslocalThe Saugus girls cross country team won the Mt. SAC Invitational. It was the fourth Grand Sweepstakes Champion title in a row for the Saugus girls.

Karis Frankian was the top runner for Saugus, finishing second overall. Kaylin Mahoney was tripped and trampled on at the beginning of the race, but recovered and finished ninth overall.

 

The West Ranch girls team posted a top-five finish in the race. The team was fourth overall, paced by Jennifer Owen’s 12th place effort.

The Golden Valley boys team won the Division III sweepstakes race, with Seth Totten posting a second-place showing.

In high school football, Saugus drove 97 yards to score the winning touchdown in the fourth quarter against West Ranch on Friday night.

Saugus quarterback Zack Gauthier threw for 297 yards and two touchdowns, including a 14-yarder to Jon Aguirre, in the 26-22, come-from-behind win.

West Ranch quarterback Connor Eichten threw for 302 yards and two touchdowns.

In other games, Hart beat Canyon, 45-27, and Valencia shut out Golden Valley, 49-0.

Hart running back Jake Stephens scored four touchdowns in his team’s win over Canyon. Canyon quarterback Jonathon Jerozal threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns

Valencia’s Steven Manfro scored five touchdowns in his team’s win over Golden Valley. He rushed for 150 yards and caught three passes for 103 yards. Valencia improved to 7-0 and has won its first two Foothill League games.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team needed only two quarters to polish off visiting Hillcrest Christian on Saturday.

Senior running back Colin Keoshian scored three rushing touchdowns, threw a touchdown pass, recovered a fumble and had an interception on defense in his team’s 56-0 win that was called at halftime because of a mercy rule.

The College of the Canyons football team lost five fumbles and lost 23-6 to Ventura College. Tight end Mychal Rivera scored the only touchdown for COC late in the fourth quarter.
