Saugus High Football Team Looks To Turn Season Around Against Taft

sportslocalThe Saugus High football team, the reigning Foothill League champions, take on Taft High School at College of the Canyons tonight. Taft is the ninth-ranked team in the CIF City Section Division I.

Both teams are 1-2. Taft is coming off a 28-19 loss to Alemany. Saugus lost to Newbury Park, 41-21, last week.

In other games, Valencia, the third-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll, hosts Santa Monica at Valencia High School. Golden Valley plays Serrano at Canyon High School. Canyon is on the road against Chaminade and Hart travels to Lancaster to play Paraclete.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team will look to avoid its third loss in a row on Saturday. Santa Clarita Christian plays Hesperia Christian at Canyon High School in a match-up of top five schools in the CIF Southern Section Division I 8-man poll.

Santa Clarita Christian is ranked fifth in the 8-man poll. Hesperia Christian is No. 4.

In high school golf, the Hart girls won the Magnolia Park Optimist Club championship for the second year in a row at DeBell Golf Course in Burbank.

Nikki Pritchard shot a 1-under par 35 to lead Hart to an eight-stroke win over Torrance. Amanda Corr and Kendall Dusenberry were each 1-over par for Hart.

Emily Tubert of Burroughs High School won her third Magnolia Park Optimist Club individual championship by shooting a 2-under par 34, one shot better than Pritchard.
