Saugus Softball Team Sweeps Alemany In Doubleheader

The Saugus softball team swept Alemany in a doubleheader and didn’t give up a run in either game. The Centurions won the first game, 11-0, and the second game, 9-0.

Brandi Burgin and Alanna Layton combined on the shutout in the first game. Mariah Lopez pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the second game.

Maddy Jelenicki drove in four runs for Saugus in the first game. Cayla Kessinger had two RBIs in the second game. She was 5-for-6 in the two games.

The Canyon softball team split a pair of games against Chatsworth in a doubleheader at Canyon High.

The Canyon girls lost to Chatsworth, 10-4, in the first game, and won the second game, 2-1. Chatsworth hit three home runs and took a 4-0 lead in the first inning of the first game.

Canyon scored three runs in the sixth inning. Julie Carlos capped the rally with a two-run, two-out double.

Kaelie Doyle was 2-for-4 with two doubles in the second game. She hit a solo home run in the first inning of the first game.

The Canyon baseball team shut out Camas from Washington, 5-0, in the Anaheim Lions Tournament. Jon Dicey pitched a two-hitter and struck out four.

Saugus beat JW North, 11-2, in the Lions Tournament. The Centurions scored 10 runs in the first inning.

The West Ranch baseball team beat Bishop Amat, 4-1, in the Scott Boras Tournament. The Wildcats scored all four runs in the sixth inning to take the lead.

The Hart baseball team lost to Mater Dei, 6-5, in the Scott Boras Tournament.  

In college baseball, The Master’s College swept a doubleheader against La Sierra. The Mustangs won the first game, 10-0, and the second game, 10-1.

Spencer Downs tripled and drove in four runs in the first game.

Joe Riddle was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for The Master’s College in the second game.

In the NBA, the Lakers made a statement with a 101-81 win over the Dallas Mavericks at Staples Center. Kobe Bryant recorded a triple-double with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.

In the NHL, the Kings lost to the Phoenix Coyotes, 3-1. Justin Williams scored the only goal for the Kings in the first period.

The Dodgers were shut out by the Giants, 3-0, and were held to two hits in the second game of the season.

The rubber game of the series is tonight at Dodger Stadium. Josh Beckett will be on the hill for the Dodgers. The Giants counter with Tim Lincecum.
