Saugus Track And Field Sets Second Fastest Time In Nation

The Hart baseball team went 2-1 in the Bishop Gorman Easter Classic tournament.

The Indians beat Blessed Trinity from Georgia, 3-1, and Page from Arizona, 9-0, in the first two games. They lost to Riverton from Utah, 10-9, in their third game.

Nick Valaika was 2-for-3 with an RBI against Blessed Trinity. He was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and scored three runs against Page.

In the loss against Riverton, Valaika was 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored two runs. He hit .600 with three doubles and drove in four runs in the three games.

The West Ranch baseball team went 2-2 in the Bishop Gorman Easter Classic tournament. The Wildcats beat Riverton, 8-2, and North Shore Tech from Massachusetts, 8-5. They lost to Bishop Gorman from Nevada, 12-5, and Blessed Trinity, 10-6.

The Saugus baseball team lost to Oaks Christian, 13-3, in the Redondo Tournament.

In track and field, the Saugus girls 4×1,600 relay team was second in the Arcadia Invitational and set the second fastest time in the nation in 20 minutes, 18.84 seconds.

The team of Ashley Heys, Samantha Ortega, Abigail Frankian and Sabrina Janes set the third fastest time in meet history. They lost to Great Oak, which won the race in 20 minutes, 12.79 seconds.

In auto racing, Brian Richardson swept the NASCAR Late Models Twin 35s at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield.

Chris Dalton won the Spec-Mods race. Brandon Weaver won the INEX Legends race and Tyler Bannister won the Bandoleros race.

In the Verizon IndyCar Series, Jack Hawksworth, driving for Bryan Herta Autosport, finished in 15th place in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach after running in sixth place for most of the race.

For the second race in a row, Hawksworth was involved in a crash late in the race and ruined an otherwise impressive run.

Mike Conway won the Grand Prix of Long Beach for the second time in the past four years.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, 102-90. The Lakers play the Utah Jazz tonight.

In the major leagues, the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-6, and completed the weekend sweep.

Next up for the Dodgers are the Giants in San Francisco on Tuesday.

In the NHL, the Kings will open the Stanley Cup playoffs against the Sharks in San Jose on Thursday.
