Saugus, West Ranch, Hart Girls Volleyball Start Tournament On High Note

The Saugus, West Ranch and Hart girls volleyball teams opened the Foothill Invitational tournament with two wins each in pool play at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.

Saugus won its first two matches in the Invitational Division over Chaminade and Eagle Rock on Thursday. The Centurions lost their last match of the day to Club Talon from Clovis West.

Saugus finishes pool play with matches against Sunnyside and Hart today at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex.

The Hart girls beat Sunnyside in two games and Eagle Rock in two games. The Indians lost to Club Talon in three games.

Hart continues pool play against Chaminade and Saugus today.

The West Ranch girls beat Crean Lutheran and El Camino Real and lost to Louisville.

The Canyons girls won two matches in the Festival Division at West Ranch High School. They beat Santa Paula and Immaculate Heart and lost to Quartz Hill.

The Valencia junior varsity team won two of three matches in the Festival Division.

In baseball, the Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-4. Yasiel Puig hit his 11th home run of the season, a solo shot in the ninth inning.

Jerry Hairston Jr. gave the Dodgers a one-run lead with a two-run pinch-hit single in the sixth inning.

The Dodgers have won 11 games in a row on the road, their longest road winning streak since 1955.

They continue their series against the Cubs today. It will be Hyun-Jin Ryu for the Dodgers against Travis Wood for the Cubs.
