The 5-seed Cardinals (19-6) made quick work of the 12-seed Lone Pine Golden Eagles in the CIF D5 State Championships opening round Wednesday, 3-0.
Lone Pine gave everything they had in the first game of the match, but fell completely flat thereafter. The Golden Eagles pushed the Cardinals in a 25-23 first set, then scored a combined 21 points in the final two sets (25-6, 25-15).
Next up for the Cardinals is 4-seed Carnegie Schools (19-6), which will be a tough road test out in Riverside. First serve for that game is scheduled for Saturday night at 6 PM.
