‘Big Poppy’, Boston’s David Ortiz got the Red Sox on the score board first with a two run homer in the bottom of the second inning. Then, after a few minute umpire review, JD Drew was awarded a solo home run. The Red Sox never fell behind. The Dodgers did manage to tie the game at three in the top of the third, but the Red Sox bats lit up three different Dodgers pitchers for a dozen hits and seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Dodgers added two more runs in the top of the sixth and another one in the top of the ninth, but the effort fell short as the Red Sox won the first of the three game series against the Dodgers with the final score The Red Sox 10 and The Dodgers 6.
