SCV Magic Shuts Out Heet FC Of Utah In Western Regional Soccer Tournament

khts_sportsThe Santa Clarita Valley Magic girls under-16 team is off to a good start in the Western Regional Championship in Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Magic shut out the Heet FC of Utah, 3-0, in the team’s first match of the tournament. Ashley Goodin, Stacy Atwater and Gabby Lopez each scored a goal for the Magic.

The next game for the Magic is against the Cyclones of Alaska today.

The Santa Clarita Blue Heat have a player on the United Soccer League team of the week. Edite Fernandes earned a spot on the W-League team after scoring two goals and recording an assist. Her goal against the Colorado Force was the game-winner in a 1-0 shutout.

In the NHL playoffs, the Boston Bruins beat the Vancouver Canucks, 4-0, in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals and won the championship for the first time since 1972.

Patrice Bergeron scored two goals and goalie Tim Thomas made 37 saves in recording his second shutout of the Stanley Cup finals. Thomas made more saves than any other goalie in Stanley Cup playoffs history.

The Dodgers lost to the visiting Reds, 7-2, and have lost three games in a row. The Reds swept the Dodgers and jumped all over starter Chad Billingsley, who gave up all seven runs on nine hits in four innings.

In other games, the Rockies beat the Padres, 6-3, and the Giants beat the Diamondbacks, 5-2.

The Phillies swept the Marlins in a doubleheader, 8-1 in the first game and 5-4 in 10 innings in the second game. The Nationals shut out the Cardinals, 10-0, the Mets blanked the Braves, 4-0, the Brewers beat the Cubs, 9-5, and the Pirates beat the Astros, 7-3.

In the Amerian League, the Angels couldn’t complete the sweep in Seattle and lost to the Mariners, 3-1. The Yankees clobbered the Rangers, 12-4, and the A’s beat the Royals, 2-1.

The Indians squeaked past the Tigers, 6-4, the Blue Jays beat the Orioles, 4-1, the Red Sox shut out the Rays, 3-0, and the Twins beat the White Sox, 4-1.
