Six track and field athletes from the Foothill League will compete in the CIF State Meet after posting qualifying marks in the Southern Section Masters Meet on Friday.
Four girls from Saugus High School qualified in the 3,200. Freshman Karis Frankian was a bit of a surprise leading the way with a sixth-place finish in the 3,200 race at the Masters Meet. She was followed by teammates Stephanie Bulder in eighth, Kaylin Mahoney in ninth and Anne Randall in 10th.
Randall also qualified for the 1,600, finishing in seventh in the Masters Meet race.
Valencia senior Aly Drake finished second in the 800 in the Masters Meet and qualified for the state meet.
Saugus senior Daniel Swarbrick qualified in two events. He finished second in the discus and was third in the shot put. He will compete in both events at the state meet which starts on Thursday.
In auto racing, Daniel Herrington, driving for Valencia’s Bryan Herta and his Bryan Herta Autosport team, spun out on lap 86 of the Firestone Indy Lights race at The Milwaukee Mile and crashed, making contact with the inside wall at the track. He finished 14th in the 16-car field. Mario Romancini led every lap and won the race.
