Six Teams From Santa Clarita Prepare For CIF Baseball Playoffs

Six teams from the Santa Clarita Valley are in the CIF Southern Section baseball playoffs.

Three teams from the Foothill League are in. The Valencia baseball team opens at home in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs against Westlake today.

Valencia finished in third place in the Foothill League. Westlake is the third-place team from the Marmonte League.

West Ranch, the co-champion of the Foothill League, has a home game in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs. The Wildcats play Los Alamitos, the third-place team from the Sunset League, on Thursday.

Canyon, which shared the Foothill League championship with West Ranch, opens the Division 1 playoffs on the road against Loyola. Loyola finished in second place in the Mission League.

The Albert Einstein Academy baseball team is making its first appearance in the CIF playoffs and will play Faith Baptist in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs today.

The Santa Clarita Christian baseball team, the Heritage League champion, plays Delphi Academy in the first round of the Division 7 playoffs on Thursday.

The Trinity Classical Academy baseball team plays Coast Union in Cambria in the first round of the Division 7 playoffs.

In high school softball, Valencia opens the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs in the wild-card round against Santa Margarita today at Valencia High School.

Valencia finished in third place in the Foothill League. Santa Margarita is an at-large team from the Trinity League.

The West Ranch softball team, the Foothill League champion, plays Rancho Cucamonga in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs on Thursday.

Saugus is on the road and plays Orange Lutheran in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.

In college golf, the College of the Canyons men’s team won the California Community College Athletic Association state championship at the Rancho Canada Golf Club in Carmel.

The COC men shot 723 as a team and won by three strokes over Orange Coast College.

Sidney Wolf had the low score for COC in the two rounds of the tournament. He was 3-under 139.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the visiting Washington Nationals, 6-2, and are still in last place in the National League West.

In hockey, the Kings open the Western Conference semifinals of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the San Jose Sharks tonight at Staples Center.
