Jenna Kelly from Saugus hit a grand slam and led the East All Stars in an 8-5 win over the West All Stars in the San Fernando Valley softball classic at Birmingham High School.
Kelly’s grand slam highlighted a six-run first inning. The East All Stars, which snapped a three-game losing streak in the fifth annual all-star game, sent 11 batters to the plate in the first.
Ashley Butera and Kate Karpennin from Saugus, Emili Escamilla from Hart, and Caitlin Rooney from Valencia all had hits in the first-inning outburst. Butera caught the entire game and earned defensive player of the game honors.
Kelly won the home run derby earlier in the day, beating Butera, 3-1, in the final round.

In the NHL playoffs, Game 7 of the Stanely Cup final is today in Vancouver between the Canucks and the Boston Bruins. The Bruins tied the series at three games apiece by winning Game 6. The home team has won every game in the series.

The Dodgers rallied in the ninth inning, but fell the to the Reds for the second game in a row. The Dodgers lost 3-2 after scoring a run in the ninth. But Rod Barrajas struck out with the tying run on second base to end the game.
In other games, the Giants beat the Diamondbacks, 6-5, and the Rockies beat the Padres, 6-3.
The Cubs needed extra innings and beat the Brewers, 5-4 in 10. The Pirates shut out the Cubs, 1-0, the Mets beat the Braves, 4-3, the Phillies beat the Marlins, 9-1, and the Nationals beat the Cardinals, 8-6.
In the American League, the Angels scored four runs in the first inning in a 4-0 shutout over the Mariners. It was the first time in three weeks the Angels have won back-to-back games.
In other games, the Royals beat the A’s, 7-4, and the Yankees beat the Rangers, 12-4.
Hart High grad James Shields tossed his league-leading third shutout of the season in the Rays’ 4-0 win over the Red Sox. The Tigers shut out the Indians, 4-0, and the Blue Jays beat the Orioles, 6-5 in 11 innings.
