So Cal Choppers Off To Good Start In ASA Gold Softball Tournament

sportslocalThe Valencia-based So Cal Choppers softball team beat the Gold Coast Hurricanes, 3-1, at the ASA Gold 18-and-under national championship in Oklahoma City.

The Gold Coast Hurricanes, a team from Florida, are the reigning ASA champions. A couple of Hart High graduates were key contributors in the Choppers’ win.

 

Destiny Rodino pitched 5 1/3 shutout innings, giving up one hit and striking out six. Melissa Brown scored in the first inning.

Jessica Spigner, a Valencia High graduate, knocked in Brown with a double. Spigner also got the save, recording the final out of the game with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh.

Valencia graduate Madison Shipman drove in a run in the first inning on a squeeze bunt. She scored another Valencia graduate, Lelani Bernardino.

The next game for the Choppers in the 64-team tournament is Thursday, a rematch with the Gold Coast Hurricanes.
