Sophomore Saugus Starter Shuts Down Golden Valley In Softball

khts_sportsIt looks like the Saugus softball team has another rising star.

Sophomore Brandi Burgin shut out Golden Valley for five innings and the Centurions blanked the Grizzlies, 11-0, in a Foothill League game.

She gave up five hits and struck out seven making the start in place of junior Alanna Layton.

Saugus scored five runs in the first inning to give Burgin a nice cushion to start the game. Karlee Bickford drove in three runs and had a two-run single in the first inning.

The Valencia softball team beat Canyon, 9-1. Wendy Cardinali and Nicole Joseph homered for Valencia. Vikings starter Carly Mortensen struck out 10 and gave up only five hits.

The West Ranch softball team scored nine runs in the eighth inning and beat Hart, 9-1. Keeley Walsh hit a solo home run for West Ranch. Teammates Julia Lombardi and Taylor Gaff each drove in two runs.

The Trinity softball team beat Santa Clarita Christian, 14-11. Kaeli Masseto hit a home run and had three hits for Trinity.

In high school baseball, Santa Clarita Christian shut out Faith Baptist, 10-0, in a five-inning game at The Master’s College.

Ryan Fullarton had two hits and drove in three runs. He had a two-run triple in the second inning.

In high school track and field, the Canyon boys and girls team won a dual meet against Saugus. The Canyon boys won, 71-65. The Canyon girls won, 87-49.

In college baseball, the College of the Canyons lost to LA Valley College, 12-3. Chad De La Guerra had three hits and scored a run for COC.

The Master’s College baseball team lost to Concordia, 9-1. Chris Talley had three hits and drove in the only run for the Mustangs.

In college softball, the College of the Canyons shut out Mission College, 11-0. COC pitcher Kimmie Lockhart won her 20th game of the season.

In the major leagues, Saugus High graduate and A’s starter Tommy Milone won his second game of the season, beating the Angels, 4-2. Milone gave up two runs on seven hits in five innings.
