The Master’s College baseball team swept a doubleheader against Cal State San Marcos in a matchup of top-25 teams in the NAIA. The 24th-ranked Mustangs won the first game, 7-5, and the nightcap, 8-7.
Bryan Lucas was 3-for-4 with a home run and drove in two runs in the first game.
Lucas hit a home run and drove in five runs for The Master’s College in the second game against Cal State San Marcos, the No. 25 team in the NAIA.
In high school softball, Valencia shut out Murrieta Valley, 9-0, in the first round of the Michelle Carew Tournament in Yorba Linda.
The Vikings plays El Modena today on second day of the tournament.
In high school track and field, the Aracdia Invitational starts today with the Valencia girls in the 4×800 relay. All six teams from the Foothill League are entered in the meet at Arcadia High School.
Golden Valley’s Chelsey Totten runs in the 1-mile race on Saturday. A.J. Yarnall from Saugus is entered in the men’s 3,200 seeded race.
The Kings clinched a spot in the NHL playoffs, but lost to the San Jose Sharks, 6-5 in a shootout. The Kings are headed to the playoffs for the third year in a row. There is one game left in the regular season, Saturday night against the Sharks in San Jose.
The Kings blew a 3-1 lead against the Sharks. Willie Mitchell notched three assist and Anze Kopitar had two assists for the Kings. Kopitar has a career-high 50 assists on the season.
The Dodgers and Matt Kemp came out swinging on Opening Day against the Padres in San Diego.
Kemp hit a two-run home run and drove in three runs in 5-3 win over the Padres. Clayton Kershaw started for the Dodgers, but left after three inning with the flu. Josh Lindblom pitched two perfect innings in relief and earned the Opening Day win.
The Dodgers and the Padres are back at it again tonight. It will be Chad Billingsley for the Dodgers against Cory Luebke for the Padres.
