The Master’s College Baseball Teams Beats No. 3 Cal Baptist

khts_sportsThe Master’s College baseball team beat Cal Baptist, 7-5, behind a three RBI day from Bryan Lucas. The Master’s College scored four runs in the first inning and three more in the sixth. Lucas delivered the big blow in the sixth inning with a two-run double.

He was 2-for-4 and Spencer Downs walked twice and scored two runs.

Cal Baptist, the third-ranked team in the NAIA, hit two home runs. Zach Esquerra hit his 14th home run of the season.

The Master’s College men’s golf team finished sixth in the CBU Spring Break Tournament in Primm, Nev. Oklahoma City College won the tournament with a team score of 870.

Kevin Anderson of The Master’s College finished in a tie for eighth place at 3-over par 219 in the three-round tournament.

Senior Erica Inge earned a spot on the NAIA All-American women’s basketball team. The senior was selected to the NAIA third team, capping her college career with 16.4 points per game. She holds two school records at The Master’s College in assists with 601 and steals with 326.

The College of the Canyons softball team crushed Mission College in a doubleheader. COC won the first game, 28-1, and the second game 14-2.

Bryanna De La Torre hit for the cycle in the first game. The West Ranch grad was 5-for-6. Karissa Hartwig was the winning pitcher for COC and collected three hits.

Karla Lira hit a home run and was 2-for-3 in the second game. Hartwig added three more hits for six hits total in the two games.

The Valencia boys tennis team improved to 9-0 with a decisive 17-1 win over Saugus. Valencia’s No. 1 singles player, JR Macalutas, did not lose a game, sweeping all three of his sets, 6-0. Tayven Townsend and Chris Pope swept all three of their singles sets as well.

The Hart boys tennis team beat Golden Valley, 11-7. The Hart doubles team of Michael Park and Ben McKeon did not lose a set.

Golden Valley’s Myles Moore won all three of his sets without losing a game.

The West Ranch boys tennis team beat Canyon, 11-7, behind strong play from the Wildcats doubles teams.

The Golden Valley girls track team beat Canyon, 79-57, in a Foothill League meet. The Canyon boys evened things out with a 88-48 win over Golden Valley at the same meet.

Golden Valley’s Lauren Hackney won two events, the 200 and 400, and was on the winning 4×100 relay team.

Canyon’s Kenny Stone won two events, the 200 and 400, for the boys team. He ran the anchor leg of the winning 4×400 relay team.

The Saugus girls track team beat West Ranch. The Saugus boys also beat West Ranch in the same meet.

The Valencia girls track team beat Hart behind Jasmine Hall. She won three events, the 100, 200 and high jump. She was also on the winning 4×100 relay team.

The Hart boys track team beat Valencia behind Trevor Lien who won the 110 and 300 hurdles.

The Dodgers scored seven runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and beat the Colorado Rockies, 7-5, in spring training in Arizona.

AJ Ellis hit a three-run home run to cap the ninth-inning rally.

Gabe Kapler knocked in two runs with a double and Ivan DeJesus was 3-for-5, scored a run and drove in a run.

The Lakers and the Clippers meet at Staples Center tonight. Both teams are coming off thrilling overtime wins. The Lakers beat the Phoenix Suns in triple overtime on Tuesday night. The Clippers beat the Washington Wizards in double overtime on Wednesday night.

The Lakers are 12-1 since the All-Star break and preparing for the playoffs. The Clippers are the Clippers and have lost three of their past five games.

The Kings beat the visiting San Jose Sharks, 2-1 in a shootout. The game was tied 3-3 at the end of regulation. Dustin Brown scored two goals for the Kings. The Sharks tied the game with five seconds left in the third period on a goal by Patrick Marleau.

Brown scored the game-winner for the Kings in the fifth round of the shootout.

Next up for the Kings are the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday.
