The Master’s College men’s golf team was penalized by the NAIA and will not be able to contend for a national championship in 2014.
The golf team qualified for the NAIA national championship tournament last season, but did not participate because of self-imposed sanctions.
The Master’s College athletic director, Steve Waldeck, told The Signal, “There were some violations of our internal athletic code of conduct” by the athletes on the golf team.

The men’s golf team opens in The Mid-South Invitational in Kansas on Sept. 9.
In auto racing, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West portion of the Pork Be Inspired 150 at Iowa Speedway.
Pursley was fourth overall in the race. Cole Custer, a driver from the K&N Pro Series East, won the race. Drivers from the East Series took the top three spots in the race.
Luca Filippi, driving for the Barracuda Racing team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta, was 16th in his Izod IndyCar Series debut at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Filippi started the race in the 24th and last position. He moved his way up to as high as 11th before falling back at the end of the race.
In football, Troy Nolan, who played at College of the Canyons, was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a week after the team signed him as a free agent.
In baseball, the Dodgers kept their road winning streak alive, 3-2, over the St. Louis Cardinals.
The Dodgers have won 15 straight games on the road, a franchise record.
Their series against the Cardinals continues tonight. Clayton Kershaw starts for the Dodgers against Joe Kelly for the Cardinals.
