The Master’s College Women’s Soccer Team Eliminated From NAIA Tournament

khts_sportsThe Master’s College women’s soccer team made an early exit from the NAIA national tournament.

The Master’s College was shut out, 3-0, by California Baptist in the second round of the tournament.

California Baptist scored three second-half goals and beat The Master’s College for the second time this season. Cal Baptist ousted The Master’s College in the first round of the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament.

In high school volleyball, Valencia’s Emily Elias earned Foothill League MVP honors. She led her team with 239 kills and was second with 32 blocks.

Her Valencia teammates Brooke Dawson and Alexa Schmidt earned all-league first team selections.

Shelby Kunz and Hannah Orlandi from West Ranch, Ashely Guthrie and Jaclyn Clark from Saugus and Anissa Robinson from Hart were also on the all-league first tem.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men lost to Hope International, 68-59. Joey Fuca scored a team-high 14 points for The Master’s College.

The Master’s College women beat Hope International, 74-72, behind 25 points from Theresa Brown.

Erica Inge scored 14 points and Zoe Scott scored 13 off the bench for The Master’s College women. The Master’s College has won their first four games of the season.

The Lakers lost to the Memphis Grizzlies, 98-96. It was the third loss in a row for the Lakers.

Kobe Bryant scored a game-high 29 points and Pau Gasol had 15 points and 14 rebounds. But Mike Conley hit four 3-pointers and scored 28 points for Memphis. Six players scored in double figures for the Grizzlies. Marc Gasol, Pau Gasol’s brother, had 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Lakers don’t get much of a break. They are in Houston for a game against Yao Ming and the Rockets tonight.

The Dodgers continue to make moves in the free-agent market and to make their National League West rivals weaker. A week after signing starting pitcher Jon Garland from the San Diego Padres, the Dodgers added Juan Uribe from the World Series champion San Francisco Giants.

Uribe will be slated to start at second base, a position recently opened with the trade of Ryan Theriot to the St. Louis Cardinals.

Uribe hit .248 but had career highs in home runs with 24 and RBIs with 85 in 2010. The Dodgers reportedly signed him for three years for $21 million.

In the Theriot trade, the Dodgers received relief pitcher Blake Hawksworth.

The Dodgers are still in the market for a left fielder to replace Manny Ramirez.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
