The Master’s College Women’s Soccer Team Rallies In Playoff Win


The Master’s College women’s soccer team scored two second-half goals and beat Concordia, 2-1, in the first round of the Golden State Athletic Conference playoffs.

Jasmine Benson scored both goals for the Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 24 in the NAIA. Her first goal tied the score, 1-1, in the 64th minute.

She scored her second goal of the game in 77th minute off an assist from Ashlea Andrade.

Concordia took a 1-0 lead in the first half scoring in the 11th minute.

In college golf, The Master’s College men finished in fourth place in the Northwood Fall Shootout in Grand Prair, Texas.

The Mustangs shot 8-over 872 in the three-round tournament. Texas Wesleyan won the Fall Shootout with 2-under 862.

Nolan Sand and Thane Ringler shot the low rounds for The Master’s College, 1-under 215s.

In college volleyball, The Master’s College women beat Westmont in five games in a match-up of top 12 teams from the NAIA.

The Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, won the fifth game16-14. Three players recorded double-digit kills. Sam Dougherty led the Lady Mustangs with 14.

Westmont, ranked No. 12 in the NAIA, won the first game and the fourth game.

In high school tennis, the West Ranch girls lost a heartbreaker in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division II playoffs. The Wildcats lost to Pasadena Poly, 79-66 on games, after finishing the match tied 9-9.

The Saugus girls also lost their wild-card playoff match, 11-7, to Temple City.

In high school volleyball, the Valencia girls wrapped up the Foothill League championship in a five-game match over West Ranch.

The Hart girls finished in second place in league with a three-game sweep over Canyon.

In high school football, Trinity Classical Academy, the Heritage League champion, is seeded No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division II 8-man playoffs and will play Price in the first round at Canyon High on Saturday.

In the NBA, the Lakers, playing with a hobbled Kobe Bryant, lost their season opener, 99-91, to the Dallas Mavericks at Staples Center.

Dwight Howard scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds in his debut with the Lakers. Bryant scored 19 points in the loss.
