The Master’s College Women’s Soccer Team Shuts Out San Diego Christian

khts_sportsThe Masters’ College women’s soccer team scored a goal in the second minute of its game against San Diego Christian and made it stand up in 1-0 shutout.

Emily Bruton scored on an assist from Andie Reyes as The Master’s College stayed undefeated and improved to 12-0-1 overall, 5-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The Master’s College, the fifth-ranked team in the NAIA, plays at Azusa Pacific today.

The Master’s college men’s soccer team beat San Diego Christian, 1-0. Joel Peluffo scored in the 53rd minutes on a pass from Jake Marchesani. It was Peluffo’s fourth goal in the past two games.

The Master’s College men play at Azusa Pacific on Wednesday.

In college cross country, The Master’s College men’s team finished second in the Vanguard Invitational. John Gilbertson finished second in the race, followed by Anthony Pizzo in third for The Master’s College. Azusa Pacific won the men’s meet.

Hannah Kellerman led The Master’s College women’s team with a 26th-place finish.

In college golf, the College of the Canyons women’s team won a Western State Conference match by one stroke at Marshall Canyon Golf Course in La Verne, the fifth conference tournament of the season.

Hae Yong Kim shot a 4-over par 77 to lead COC. The women shot 327 as a team and finished one shot ahead of Glendale College.

Tiara Wells shot an 8-over par, 81, and Taylor Gould was 11-over par at 85.

It was the 20th conference win in a row for COC.

In hockey, the Valencia Flyers won a pair of games over the weekend against the Bakersfield Junior Condors and snapped a three-game losing streak.

The Flyers won on Saturday night, 9-4, at the Valencia Ice Station. Bryan Fiol, Taylor Abbott and Smbat Defterderian each scored two goals for the Flyers.

The Flyers beat the Junior Condors, 6-2, on Friday night. The Flyers scored three goals in the third period. Abbott scored two goals, including one in the third period, and Alex Descheneux had three assists for the Flyers.

The Flyers are 5-6 on the season. They play the Long Beach Bombers on Friday night in Lakewood.

The Kings host the Atlanta Thrashers tonight in their home opener. The Kings are 1-1 after starting the season on the road with a win against the Vancouver Canucks and a loss to the Calgary Flames.

The Thrashers are 1-1 with a win over the Washington Capitals and a loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Pregame starts at 7 on AM 1220, KHTS.

In the National League Division Series, the San Francisco Giants beat the Atlanta Braves, 3-2, in Game 4 and advanced to the National League Championship Series.

Cody Ross hit a solo home run and drove in the go-ahead run for the Giants. He homered off Braves starter Derek Lowe and broke up a no-hitter in the sixth inning. Ross knocked in Buster Posey in the seventh to give the Giants a 3-2 lead.

The Giants will face the Philadelphia Phillies, the reigning National League champions, in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Saturday.

The Texas Rangers and Tampa Bay Rays will play Game 5 of their American League Division Series tonight. It will be Cliff Lee for the Rangers against David Price for the Rays. The winner gets the New York Yankees in the American League Championship Series.
