The Master’s College women’s soccer team shut out Grace from Indiana, 4-0, in the season opener for both teams.
The Lady Mustangs scored three goals in the second half. Jordan Benson scored a goal and had two assists. Jasmine Benson had a goal and an assist.
Tara Struiksma gave the Lady Mustangs a 1-0 lead with a goal in the first half. Stephanie Albright scored the fourth and final goal for The Master’s College in the 72nd minute.
In track and field, Santa Clarita’s Allyson Felix is the top qualifier in the 200 meters at the world championships in Russia.
She won her semifinal heat race in 22.30 seconds. The 200 meter final is today.
Canyon High graduate Alysia Montano won her first heat race in the 800 meters. The 800 meters semifinal race is today and the final is on Sunday.
In auto racing, the Race to Stop Hunger will be at Kern County Raceway Park on Saturday night.
The CITGO Late Models and Street Stocks will be featured in the races in Bakersfield.
David Mayhew leads the Late Model standings at the track. He has won eight races in 13 starts.
Santa Clarita’s Rich DeLong won the inaugural Street Stocks race at Kern County Raceway Park last month.
NASCAR Mini Stocks are also on tap to race on Saturday night. The green flag drops at 7.
In baseball, the Dodgers are in Philadelphia to start a weekend series against the Phillies tonight.
The Dodgers have an eight-game winning streak and are 23-3 since the All Star break. They are in first place in the National League West standings, 7 ½ games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Zack Greinke starts for the Dodgers tonight against Cliff Lee for the Phillies.
