The Master’s College Women’s Volleyball Team Rakes In Recognition

The postseason awards are starting to pour in for The Master’s College women’s volleyball team.

Bobby Blanken was selected as the Golden State Athletic Conference coach of the year. He guided the Lady Mustangs to their first trip to the NAIA National Championship tournament.

The Master’s College is ranked No. 6 in the NAIA and has a 26-5 record.

Samantha Dougherty was selected to the all-conference team. She was the Golden State Athletic Conference player of the week twice and received the NAIA player of the week award once during the 2012 season. She is third in the conference in kills and service aces.

The College of the Canyons women’s volleyball team lost to Pierce College in four games.

The CIF preseason high school basketball rankings are out and the Canyon boys are No. 2 in the Division 2AA poll. Ocean View is the No. 1 team and Saugus came in at No. 13.

The West Ranch boys are No. 9 in Division 1A. Mission Viejo is the top-ranked team in Division 1A.

The Canyon girls are ranked No. 8 in the Division 2AA preseason poll. Mark Keppel is No. 1.

The Saugus girls are No. 7 in the Division 2A poll. Foothill is No. 1.

In the girls soccer preseason poll, Saugus is ranked No. 3 in Division 2. Sunny Hills earned the top ranking.

In baseball, Chuck Crim, who coached the Canyon High baseball team, was hired as the bullpen coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

 Crim, the Canyon coach in 2004 and 2005, played in the majors for eight seasons with the Angels, Brewers and Cubs. He was first called up in 1987. He was the pitching coach for the Dodgers Double-A team in Chattanooga.

Crim is one three new coaches for the Dodgers. Mark McGwire was hired as the team’s new hitting coach and John Valentin is the new assistant hitting coach.

New York Mets pitcher R.A. Dickey won the National League Cy Young Award. Dodgers lefty Clayton Kershaw was second in the Cy Young Award voting.

David Price of the Tampa Rays won the American League Cy Young Award.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the visiting Miami Heat, 107-100, and have a four-game winning streak.
